Victory Rolls and pompadours, famously worn by a stunning Sean Young in the cult classic Blade Runner, are making a comeback in many glossy editorials and runways this season. Sean personifies the flawless femme fatale with her luscious red lips, 80′s high-glam and space-age luster. The film, along with the styling and wardrobe, has become one of the most stylistically influential films of all time and we are glad to see it once again making an impact on the fashion world.

This spring’s fashion takes inspiration from one of the worlds most mysterious and magnificent places, the Sea. The dark underwater world inspires a palette of bright greens, ocean blues and sea swept waves with accents of lemon and lime. Looks inspired by swimwear create a half-sporty, half-girly aesthetic. You don’t have to be a mystic creature of the sea to appreciate its true beauty.

We know we’re not alone in our love affair with the Breton stripe. The fashion staple, now synonymous with chic Parisian style, certainly has proven that it’s perfect symmetry stands the test of time. We’re convinced; there will always be a demand for the stripe – the definition of a true classic.

The modern version of 60’s glam is slightly more unkempt this time around. The overall style is voluminous with flowing waves, but less structured. Pair this look with a softly side swept or a strong blunt bang. We love the blend of the decades with a common larger–than-life narrative.

Get the look: Round brush blow dry, applying Bigwigg to the roots and a thermal setting spray all over, like AG’s Insulate. While the hair is still warm, set with Velcro rollers and let cool. Before removing the rollers, mist Frizzproof all over for maximum frizz protection and shine. Remove rollers. Using your fingers, gently break apart curls using Waxx on the ends for separation and shine.

Just in time for summer — we covet these animal inspired designs by Kenzo Creative Directors, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim. The collaborative project, now in its fourth season, features the authentic Vans style in brightly coloured leopard print of ocre, orange, blue, green and khaki inspired by the Asian Jungle.

The collection is available at Kenzo stores, Kenzo.com and at Opening Ceremony.

The art of layering similar-hued colours with vivid neons and pretty patterns is a trend that’s making a major impact on fashion and has quickly become a styling sensation. For those who are a little more daring, this trend is easily translated to hair using bold, chunky highlights in a contrasting colour.

For the first time in AG history, we attended New York Fashion Week this past February. Not just as spectators, but as the official hair sponsor of the Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Presentation.

For her FW13 collection Chloë took inspiration from the quintessential 60′s cool girl. She hand picked girls from the streets of New York with lot’s of attitude and personality to bring the collection to life.

Pink babydoll dresses and pastel berets were mixed with A-line minis, mod collars, knee-high socks and 60s style booties. The overall styling of the collection was boyish and defiant, the perfect complement to the naturally textured hair created by Shin Arima and the AG Hair team. Shin worked alongside Chloë to craft each look. Natural, untouched texture, was created using AG’s Beach Bomb and Foam into dry hair, blow-drying individual pieces by hand to create definition, while Fast FWD lent to the cool, edgy texture that resonated throughout the collection. Expect to see this carefree approach to textured hair everywhere this season.

With this video we offer you a peek into the private protest-inspired viewing of Chloë’s latest collection from back stage to the front of house. It brings back great memories for our team and you know what they say … it’s never as good as your first time.

“After a lot of searching I thought back on how I’ve wanted to do hair for most, if not all of my childhood.” Recalls Wesley O’Meara of the moment he realized his dream in life and what he was desperately missing.

We first took notice of Wesley after discovering his blog “We Hate Your Hair” a place where he dishes on trends, gives straight up advice to his adoring fans, and by all accounts keeps things real. However, it wasn’t until we began stalking following @wessles that we realized he’s a pretty funny guy.

Naturally, this self-taught talent has a long list of celebrity clientele we could rattle off and a roster of magazine covers that would make any stylist drool, but we think his work speaks for itself.

How did you get started in the industry?
I’ve sort of been in the industry for a long time. I’ve had stints working in fashion PR, model agent, and photo agent. I KNEW I belonged in the fashion industry and tried all of these fields without any success. I knew what I was missing, and that was being creative. After a lot of searching I thought back on how I wanted to do hair for most, if not all of my childhood. I then had an epiphany and realized I could do hair for fashion. Once I made that step I never looked back and here I am today!

Can you tell us a bit about your creative process? Where do draw inspiration from?
I like to draw my inspiration from all over! Mostly I like to study subcultures and different genres and take those trends and reinterpret them into my own. I love looking at the collections every season so I can keep an eye on trends. This way I get an idea of what the magazines are going to want from me. I spend HOURS on Google Image searching really random key words. Its kind of amazing the things you can find doing that!

A style you’ve mastered and can do in your sleep?
Oh heavens, BEACH HAIR. Partly because I love that look so much, but mostly it is the most requested hair out there. Whether it is from clients or on set there is always room for a beach hair look. I’ve done this hairstyle so much I can probably name off 10 different ways to achieve the look.

What are some up and coming hair trends we should know about?
Hair trends! I love a hair trend. Right now I’m feeling a major push towards 60’s styles with a modern/grunge twist. I’m seeing a lot of women chop their hair off in a rebellious way and I’m also seeing women put more of an effort into their hair styles, thus demanding more of a “look” with their cuts. This is great news on our end, gives us room to play and experiment with our clients.

How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as effortless. I am self-taught for the most part, so most of my work comes from playing with shapes and working with the model’s hair and trying to figure things out. Most of the work I put out is achieved in very few steps and in a relatively quick process. I think it comes from not being shown how to do things the conventional way, and using passion as my guide.

Any professional tips you could share?
Be professional! Nobody wants a diva on set, nobody wants a troublemaker, and nobody wants someone lazy. Professionalism, solid work, and an easygoing personality are key when dealing with multiple artistic personalities everyday. When it comes to collaborating remember it isn’t always your show, you are part of a team but it is also important to make sure you get your vision across, so learn the right ways to express your ideas to the team. I have started bringing a tablet to set everyday with a VERY extensive reference library, and I have noticed a huge difference in the work I have been able to put out and the trust that has been built up with the teams I work with.

Can’t live without product on-set?
Texturizing spray!!!!!! I seriously cannot go through a single job without the stuff. It is a great tool for enhancing a natural texture or creating amazing complicated styles and then breaking it down to make it modern, or even just a little grip for elegant updo’s. You can use a little or a lot but there is ALWAYS a need for it. That is why I love AG’s Dv8 Texture Spray; it is so versatile without leaving the hair looking chalky.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
Any advice is the best advice. People give advice because they care and you can’t take anything with a grain of salt. Make sure you absorb information like a sponge, sometimes not all advice applies to you, but you have to break it down and learn from everything. I love advice, and ask for it from everyone.

Most memorable shoot?
This is so corny, but I would have to say that it is this job I did with Cynthia Rowley! I just remember being a young teen and having this dream of living in NYC and working in fashion. I used to stay up all night and watch Fashion Television, and pay very close attention to the designers and their collections. One of the collections that stuck out to me was from Cynthia Rowley. She showed a menswear collection made entirely out of tie material and it blew my mind. I was obsessed! Keep in mind; this was the mid 90s, lol. Anyhow, I was working with Cynthia to create looks for a TV appearance she was working on and it all hit me. I was sitting in Cynthia’s office with a set of models and at that moment I realized I made it! It was also VERY early on in my career, maybe within the first year. From that day on I knew I could only move up from there.

What do you love most about being a stylist?
I love being able to create, I love giving advice, and I love the hours! This is also a bit cliché but I love helping people feel better about themselves. It makes me feel so wonderful inside knowing someone is going to ride off of the high of an awesome look I helped them achieve. I love being part of a bigger creative process and working more as a sculptor than a “hairstylist.” I love the life this job has provided; the travel is also the best part. I’ve spent a month in India for work, many trips to Mexico, a wonderful trip to the Maldives, and I JUST got back from a job in South Africa. I mean how awesome is all of that??

Tell us three things we need to know about NYC:

Save your money! It’s expensive here.

Time FLIES, I’ve been here almost 15 years and it feels like I just got off the boat yesterday. I guess that means I’ve had a lot of fun!

This is the best city in the world (well to me at least).

Quite possibly the hottest hair trend this season, the deep side part has become a go-to style from the red carpet to the street. Easy to achieve, this ‘90’s influenced look is a simple update from last season’s center part.

Get the look: Blow-dry your hair as usual. Once hair is dry, use your fingers to create a part beginning at the end or middle of your eyebrow. Don’t use a comb, this look is meant to be less than perfect. Spritz your palms with a workable hairspray like Aerodynamics or Frizzproof and smooth any flyaways. Finish your style off with a trendy ear piece like this Rhinestone Wing Cuff from TOPSHOP.

Ok maybe we are poking a bit of fun at the Harlequin romance series (you know which one we mean).

However, we are seriously inspired by the depth and range of this technically colourless, colour. Effervescent and alluring by nature, the palette spans time, and is reflected through fashion and beauty as a colour of influence. Get swept away in our sea of grey inspired imagery.

Saint Laurent’s Music Project, photographed by Hedi Slimane, has received a lot of attention as of late. What we love most is the raw edge of his musical muses and the moodiness of the photography. Slimane truly captures authentic grunge. As for the clothes, we really didn’t notice.

This portrait series draws on the longstanding relationship between rock and the house of Saint Laurent since it’s beginning, dressing the likes of Bowie and Jagger. The Rock Diary features ‘90’s-era musical muses, Courtney Love, Kim Gordon, Marilyn Manson and Ariel Pink.

Time to dust off your cherry red Dr. Martens, Nirvana CD’s and the box set of My So Called Life – the ‘90’s are back. We’re seeing a serious Generation X influence on this season’s fashion from graphic tee’s to plaids and grungey layering. However, the current mix of bright prints, florals and more refined plaids takes this trend in a fresher more feminine direction. Think 1990’s grunge-chic, a little softer with less angst.

With summer fast approaching we’ve got sun and surf on our minds and nothing says warm-weather like perfectly imperfect tousled hair. It’s no surprise, easy-breezy beach-hair is still a major player heading into this sun kissed season. We say, bring on the bare legs, cold drinks and balmy summer nights.

Get the look:
Let’s face it, we would all love to roll out of bed with hair like Gisele Bündchen, but not everyone is as genetically blessed. For those of us with less than perfect bed head AG’s Beach Bomb texturizes, tousles and creates bomb-shell worthy waves, even Gisele would envy. Scrunch a small amount through damp hair and gently diffuse dry.

When it comes to change, no one does it better than models. Forever the muse and force behind fashion, constantly transforming themselves whether in front of the camera or on the catwalk. Over the years we’ve been inspired by these icons who by chopping their locks, redefined feminine and sexy.

There’s no question short, modern, unstructured bobs are making a major appearance on models like Daria Werbowy, Jessica Stam and most recently Karlie Kloss, who famously made ‘The Chop’ for Vogue Magazine and has quickly become the haircut of the year.

Low maintenance hair is definitely a welcome change especially for those of us that are a little hair challenged.

Location: New York City
Occupation: Editorial Director at BULLETT magazine
Hometown: Cornwall, Ontario (I tell everyone that Ryan Gosling is from there, and I’m 99% sure that’s true. I also tell people we grew up together, and I’m 100% sure that’s not true.)

He may or may not be childhood friends with Ryan Gosling, but Nick Haramis is every bit the successful expat. After moving to New York on a whim, he has quickly risen to the top of the publishing world holding the title of Editorial Director at BULLETT magazine while contributing to several other publications, including Billboard.

We sat down with Nick to talk style, the Marges and how he gets that hair looking so good.

Where do you feel most at home? At home, mostly. When I first moved to the city six years ago, you’d have had to pry an open-bar drink from my cold, dead hands, but now the same can be said of my remote control.

Who is your style icon? On a good day, Marlon Brando in The Wild One. On an okay day, Marlon Brando in Last Tango in Paris. On a normal day, Marlon Brando at the height of his white muumuu phase in The Island of Dr. Moreau.

How would you describe your own personal style? I used to be really into signature looks. I’d wear bow ties whether I was at a fancy party or getting my teeth cleaned. Then I started wearing weird jewelry (Burberry necklace made from bullets, an Erickson Beamon brooch made from shards of broken glass), which was funny and short-lived. Now I’m more practical: I like classic pants and shirts that fit nicely and are well made. I like leather jackets and scuffed-up boots. But every now and again I’ll pass an off-the-shoulder Day-Glo tee and wonder what could have been.

What was the last thing you bought for your closet? A really nice thing about my job is that people sometimes send me free stuff. The most recent thing that came in the mail is a black umbrella with a white handle in the shape of a hand model’s hand. When it rains, it looks like I’m canoodling.

When did you first decide that you wanted to go into a career in publishing? I always kind of knew I’d be a writer. When I was in high school, I poured my pubescent heart into these really maudlin coming-of-age stories filled with Dawson’s Creek–style dialog. In my final year of college, instead of going to Miami Beach for spring break, I came to New York to meet with editors at magazines I liked. Being in those offices, seeing that people actually do this for a living, was such an overwhelming moment for me.

What does a day/week/month look like for you as the Editorial Director of an art and fashion quarterly? This week, we’re closing our spring issue, so we’ve been sequestered in the office making sure that every story has serial commas and the right their/there/they’re. Aside from the routine of putting an issue to bed, though, it’s really unpredictable, which is probably my favorite thing about the job. As Editorial Director, I choose the majority of subjects we feature in the magazine, and then I do all of the celebrity booking, assign the stories to writers, edit the pieces, help produce the shoots, and usually write a cover story each issue.

What was the biggest risk you’ve ever taken? Moving to New York on my own, without any real sense of purpose, was a big one. So was the street meat I ate for lunch.

Which person do you most admire—alive or deceased? The Marges: Gunderson, Atwood, and Simpson.

What’s on your iPod? I only have one album on my phone, Autre Ne Veut’s Anxiety. He’s this guy named Arthur Ashin from Brooklyn, and his songs are moody and wonderful. I listen to YouTube channels at work, which seems very 2004 now that I think about it. Those are never all that relevant and range from Fiona Apple to Staind, unfortunately. Can we just say I’m always listening to the Smiths, the Cure, and Joy Division?

What’s the last thing you read? I read, reread, and re-reread a cover story I just wrote on the band Yeah Yeah Yeahs for Billboard.

What sites do you visit everyday? There’s a glut of entertainment news websites in my life: NYMag.com, Variety.com, Deadline.com, Gawker.com, TheAwl.com. And if I’m being totally honest with myself as a writer, Thesaurus.com.

Tell us three things we need to know about NYC:
1. Empty subway cars are empty for a reason.
2. The people in Times Square selling tickets to comedy shows aren’t there to sell tickets to comedy shows.
3. Delivery.com.

What do you love about AG hair? The whole line is amazing, but I have two favorites: Dv8 adds a lot of texture to my hair and allows me to sleep longer because I don’t have to fuss much in the morning; and Set It Straight does what it promises, which is sometimes necessary with the bird’s nest on my head.

Inspired by the neon-lit strip, casino décor and sequined showgirls of Sin City, designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon captured the essence of Vegas by absorbing the environment into the clothes themselves.

Poetically noir, Opening Ceremony’s Fall 2013 line captures the luxury through a rich palette of blue, crimson and indigo, mixed with sequins, beading and embroidery to complete the opulent look. Our personal favorite was the embroidered rose motif sweater paired with the high-sheen satin skirt.

Hair by Wesley O’Meara using AG’s Beach Bomb for all over texture, Bigwigg for lift at the roots and DV8 for definition at the ends, pinned back into a low and loose Chignon.

Whether Vegas is on your to-do list or not, you’re sure to shine in any one of these lavish pieces.

A colour synonymous with denim and suede shoes, indigo has found it’s way onto the runways for F/W 2013. Adorning the eyes of models for Jason Wu, blue shadow is now fresh again.

The blue hue has also made the leap from jeans to couture as a colour prominently featured in some of our favourite upcoming collections, like Valentino and ACNE.

There is definitely no need to chase these blues away.

It’s no secret that the world’s obsession with blondes is never-ending. And while, we’d love to be lucky enough to come by it naturally, most of us don’t. All of the processing required to get that perfect high-lift hue can leave our locks weakened and depleted of natural oils, forcing us to deal with the after effects of all that lifting and colouring. In our quest to find the perfect muse for our latest line of Keratin products, we turned to some of our favourite iconic blondes. After all what would a blonde bombshell be if it wasn’t for her hair?

When we’re developing our products we look for two things, inspiration and solutions to our most pressing problems. That’s where Keratin Repair was born. Intensely rich, each product is infused with keratin, shea butter and silk amino acids, to nourish dry and chemically treated hair. The line breathes new life back into hair leaving it stronger, silkier and full of body.

Stylist Sonia Leal-Serafim is a true leading lady. A master at highlighting the natural beauty of her clients and the ability to light up any set with her infectious smile has made Sonia one of the beauty industries most sought after artists. She has worked with some of the industry’s most talented actors, models and musical artists, such as Fergie, Ellen Page, and Coco Rocha, to name a few.

Sonia regularly contributes to Zink, Nuvo, Montecristo, Chatelaine and Fashion magazines. Her smoldering, sexy styles can also be seen in the pages of Playboy, Maxim, Umm and Men’s Fitness.

This jet-setting stylist has made her name living and working everywhere from Toronto to Lisbon to New York and San Francisco, but we consider ourselves lucky that she calls Vancouver home. We sat down with her to find out what inspires her.

Where do you draw your inspiration?
It’s hard to say, inspiration can come from anywhere for me. It can be from the clothing on a photo shoot, a time in history, or the seasons themselves. But more often than not, it comes from the person in my chair at that moment. It’s not uncommon for me to have a specific vision in mind, plan and prepare for that idea, and then once the person is in my chair be completely inspired by them and go in a completely different direction.

A style you’ve mastered and can do in your sleep?
I’d have to say, full voluminous movable hair that is low maintenance. Whether it’s in a studio with a fan blowing on it all day, or outdoors fighting the elements.

To get maximum full-body, movable hair that will last all day, start by sectioning off dry hair. The more sections you make, the bigger the hair. Then take each section and spray with AG’s Spray Gel thermal setting spray starting at the root and working down to the ends. Brush the section of hair thoroughly and then with a large barrel iron curling iron, curl the hair getting as close to the root as possible and then pin the curl to let it cool down. After the whole head is done and the hair is thoroughly cooled down remove all the pins. You can either use a wide tooth-comb or your fingers and run them through the hair. Then use AG’s Aerodynamics to shape and place hair.

Up and coming hair trends?
I was just in Europe and it was apparent everywhere, “perfect imperfection”. Young women, to mature women on the street, to fashion editorials. Up dos, short hair, long hair or even pony tails, there was always an element of “un fussed”.

Can’t live without product on-set?
AG’s Spray Gel thermal setting spray. It works wonderfully on almost every hair type. Also, in this business you can often find yourself working in very tight spaces where there is no air circulation or windows and some people are very sensitive to smells….. I always get compliments on the smell of Spray Gel.

What was it like working with Kit Harington?
Kit Harington was a favourite for all of us involved in the shoot. He easily stands out in my mind as a true gentleman. Down to earth, kind, warm and professional. He does have amazing hair, and I had to do very little to it for the shoot, just a little AG Infrastructure for some texture and shine.

How did you get started?
I got my start at nine years old doing makeovers to almost every visitor that came to our house…. My Aunts, Mothers friends, my friends…. You came to our house… you got a makeover.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

Favorite celebrity … model?
It’s hard to say, I’m so lucky to have worked with so many amazing people. But Fergie really stands out for me. She loves hair and makeup and having it done and will do whatever it takes to facilitate what you need to do.

What do I love most about being a stylist?
There are so many different elements I love most about being a stylist. I love the people I get to meet and work with, that normally you would never get the chance to. I love that every day and every job is different. Maybe most of all, I love how you have the ability to make people feel really good about themselves.

It’s been rumored that blondes have more fun. We’re not so sure, but what we do know is that high-lift blondes are here to stay. While we are still madly in love with all things fair, we know the havoc getting that perfect light hue can wreak on your sensitive hair.

That’s why AG created a new luxe line of Keratin Repair products designed to fortify, repair and reverse the signs of damage. The five-product regimen is infused with keratin protein, shea butter and silk and amino acids to significantly restore strength and reduce breakage in chemically straightened, coloured and distressed hair.

As we were developing the Keratin Repair line and preoccupied with the world of iconic blondes we were inspired to create our video, Empire Girl, starring top model Ashley Smith and filmed by Ramon J. Goni. It tells a vibrant story of a New York City girl as she navigates work, play and love in the city that never sleeps, all the while her hair is looking its best.

Big winter collars, scarves and added layers can make it difficult to keep your hair looking good this time of year. Usually reserved for a last minute fix — the low and loose pony is the perfect answer to looking great while staying bundled up. Romantic yet chic, it’s the ultimate balance of undone-done. This low profile look is ideal for tucking into layers, and the messier the better. It works best on second day hair.

Add volume to the roots with AG’s dry shampoo, FastFWD, and finish by spraying DV8 throughout and scrunch for all over texture. Don’t forget to roughen it up for a little extra attitude.

We’re loving Rodarte’s Fall/Winter ’13 collection inspired by Laura and Kate Mulleavy’s hometown of Santa Cruz. Hair was unkempt with loosely tousled, brushed out waves and interwoven braids, that joined together in a delicate rosette that transitioned into a single braid down the back. The hair evoked an attitude of a youthful rocker princess, while the makeup was inspired by the surf and sand, a little messy and undone but naturally fresh.

The 80’s revival continues, and we have to say we aren’t complaining. Our favourite hair trend to reemerge this season is crimped, kinky texture. Time to dig out your old crimping iron and get styling. What’s different this time around is the way it’s worn. Smooth and sleek at the crown with kinks starting mid way down the hair. And frizz? You bet. Tweeze it out or style it super tight with shine.

As seen on the runway for Fall/Winter ’13, Derek Lam incorporated tight, barely there kinks by braiding the hair first and then flat ironing. Apply Firewall for a soft hold, thermal protectant before styling. Finish with a light, moveable finishing spray like AG’s Aerodynamics.
