Mackenzie Davis

Location: Atlanta
Occupation: Actor
Hometown: Vancouver

With roles in That Awkward Moment, The F Word and the AMC series Halt & Catch Fire, 2014 is a busy year for newcomer Mackenzie Davis.

For this Vancouver native, becoming an actor was the plan from day one. And while the 26 year old studied English lit at McGill, we’re glad she continued on her intended path, studying theatre in New York.

Now poised to become a household name, we were lucky to get the chance to sit down with Mackenzie, to talk Miley Cyrus, personal style and what’s next for her.

Where do you feel most at home?
New York

Who is your style icon?
Miley Cyrus: for just being Miley; Mickey Rourke: same reason; and Joan Didion because she is so, so cool.

How would you describe your own personal style?
Lately my personal style has been veering towards a high-powered manager of a baseball team or a really fancy soccer coach.

What is your favorite hair trend?
Bowl cut.

What was the last thing you bought for your closet?
I just bought a vintage military flight suit and a couple pairs of vintage high waisted plaid trousers that are probably pretty unflattering, but the heart wants what it wants.

When did you first decide that you wanted to go into a career in film?
Always. Maybe not film in particular, I loved theatre, but I never wanted to be anything but an actor.

Can you tell us a bit about your next big project?
I am in Atlanta until April shooting a new series for AMC where I play a computer-programming prodigy during the pc boom in the early 80’s.

How do you prepare for a role?
I wish I had more of a dependable method, but I pretty much just do a lot of reading and thinking and hope for the best.

What was the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
Probably not having any backup plan if acting didn’t/doesn’t pan out. Here’s hoping!

Which person do you most admire – alive or deceased?
My mum and my dad.  They’re extremely driven and so supportive and very cool.

What’s on your iPod?
I’ve been listening to a lot of S.E. Rogie lately; he’s this lovely palm wine musician from Sierra Leone and makes some sexy, bouncy music.

What’s the last film you watched?

What do you love about AG hair?
In the last year my hair was dyed from white to black to brown to blonde to brown with extensions and now finally peroxide pixie cut.  AG hair – especially the new keratin repair – is the ONLY thing that keeps it healthy and shiny and strong. I think I’d be bald without it.
