Hey Jude

Meet Lyndsey & Lauren, vintage clothing hunters and founders of Hey Jude. Dubbed “a vintage shop that is one step ahead of the rest” by SHK Magazine (New York), their collections are packed full of carefully curated items and repurposed gems, all meticulously handpicked.

We stopped by their latest Pop-up Shop (on now until Dec. 22 at 196 Kingsway, Vancouver) to meet the uber fashion-forward owners in person – and even left with our own one-of-a-kind finds (hello vintage levis “mom jeans”!).

Location: Vancouver
Occupation: Owners of Hey Jude

Where do you feel most at home?
Lyndsey: Vancouver. But nothing beats going home to Ladner with my sisters for some quality family time and lots of laughs.
Lauren: Vancouver definitely feels like my city but going back to my parents home in Vernon has a certain nostalgic, comforting feeling.

Who is your style icon?
Lyndsey: I don’t have anyone specific but I’m always inspired by the street style around me.
Lauren: I think that Carine Roitfeld and Leigh Lezark are so damn cool.

Most prized possession?
Lyndsey: My family + friends.
Lauren: A beautiful dresser I have that was handmade by my grandpa

How did Hey Jude get started?
Hey Jude started out as a side project when we realized how much we loved picking and styling amazing vintage pieces. We had seen the pop-up model on a trip to New York and decided it would be a unique way to sell our finds. This was over 4 years ago and now it’s only grown from there.

Most exciting professional moment to date?
The first time we presented at Vancouver Eco Fashion Week. It was so exciting to take part in such a big event and show a large group of people what we are all about! A close second was being asked to present at LA Fashion Week.

How would you describe your own personal style?
Lyndsey: Simple and athletic inspired… but I love incorporating quirkier pieces in to mix things up.
Lauren: Black, relaxed, layers of jewellery. A little clean and minimalist, a little grunge.

What is your favorite hair trend?
Lyndsey: Blunt ends.
Lauren: All over grey.

What was the last thing you bought for your own closet?
Lyndsey:A Mary Rich leather + neoprene backpack.
Lauren: A pair of vintage leather boots for Fall and an Adidas nylon backpack.

What was the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
Turning Hey Jude into our full-time focus.

Lipstick, gloss or natural?
Lyndsey: Natural most days, but I always love a dramatic lip colour when the mood strikes me.
Lauren: Usually a mixture. I have an assortment in my purse and just layer what I’m feeling at the moment.

What is your vice?
Lyndsey: Salt + Vinegar chips
Lauren: Salt + Vinegar chips

What’s on your current playlist?
Lyndsey: I recently inherited an old school radio tuner + speakers, so my boyfriend and I have been hooked on listening to CBC Radio 2 whenever we’re home together… nerdy, I know, but I love hearing the background story on the artists and bands and the interviews they have with them.
Lauren: Blue Hawaii, Baths, Vincent James McMorrow, Odesza and Chinatown.

Tell us three things we need to know about Vancouver:
1. Our current pop-up is happening in Vancouver until December 22! Expect to see hand selected vintage in a neutral colour palette along with accessories and a small men’s collection. We’re also featuring locally crafted goods like jewelry, candles and leather by some rad Vancouver brands.

2. Vancouver has an amazing entrepreneurial energy. There are a lot of people here creating, making and starting out their own companies. We find it an inspiring community to be in!

3. Some of our favourite places to check out are: Los Cuervos (Tacos), Bestie (German bratwurst + cool boys), 33 Acres (craft beer + growler fills), Bao Bei (cocktails + modern Chinese fare), Matchstick (our daily morning caffeine fix) and The Found and the Freed (unique antique home décor).

What’s up next for Hey Jude?
We have a lot of exciting things coming up for 2015 but first we’re focused on what our pop-up will look like in December for the seasonal shopping. We’re excited to incorporate more local companies and have more events in the shop too.

What do you love most about AG hair?
Lyndsey: The Volumizing Foam and High + Dry… I’m sold on anything that gives my hair volume and texture.
Lauren: The products leave my hair feeling healthy!
