Set, Sweat, Style

Raise your hand if you’ve ever skipped a workout because you were worried about your hair? Maybe it was a particularly great hair day, or you wanted to preserve your blowout for some post-work patio and frosé? WE GET IT. Sweat, coupled with the heat and humidity of summer can lead to frizz and frustration faster than your favourite fitness instructor can say “burpee”.

As exercise is an important part of our daily lives, we got together with Vancouver-based Life + Colour Salon and Tight Club Athletics to create helpful How-To Hair Gifs. As Tight Club likes to say, you’re not just training for the gym, you’re training for life.

It’s all about prepping hair BEFORE your work out, using the proper product to protect hair, and strategically styling it to stay in place. Post-work out, we got you too. Not only will you be feeling those positive endorphins, our step-by-step gifs will help create frizz-free texture and volume, so you can glow from head to toe.

Over the next month, we’ll be focusing on different hair styles and lengths, first up is ideal for medium length, fine hair that may have a tendency to get flat when things heat up.

Pre-Workout Prep

1. Apply Sea Spray (a SELF Magazine award winner) liberally throughout hair, adding hold and setting it for your style after the workout.

2. Gather hair in small ponytails, securing with elastics (you’ll need 3-6 small elastics, depending on hair length). This will create coveted “bends” in hair when taken out.

Post-Sweat Style

1. Take a moment to cool down after your workout (try not to rush too quickly). Lightly pat with a towel before carefully removing elastics and shaking head from side to side.

2. Lift sections of hair, spraying Simply Dry at the root. This will absorb excess oil, refreshing hair and adding volume. Create a side swept part with your fingers (the more imperfect, the better).

3. Up the oomph factor with Tousled Texture (another SELF Magazine award winner), spraying and scrunching large sections.

4. Sweaty hair, don’t care.
