#LiftUp with Tashina Combs

We sprung into spring feeling lighter than air with the launch of our newest product Cloud, and we’re fueling the #LiftUp momentum by continuing to spread the do-good/feel-good attitude. This week, we chatted with Tashina Combs, the woman behind cruelty-free and vegan beauty database Logical Harmony, about the little things that lift her mood. Like Cloud, the smallest gestures can make the biggest impact.

#LiftUp with Tashina

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself – where did you grow up?
I grew up in Oregon and now live in Napa Valley, California. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a place that had a great mix of city elements and nature all around it, and I got to spend a lot of time in Portland which is one of my favorite cities.

What inspired you to not only go vegan, but also start Logical Harmony?
I’ve always felt strongly about animals and that animal testing is unnecessary. As I learned more and more about how animals were treated, it made sense to make steps towards going vegan. I was running Logical Harmony before I went vegan and the focus was on mainstream beauty products. I loved writing and I loved beauty, so writing about my love of beauty products was a fun and easy thing to do. After I met Justin, who I run Logical Harmony with, he gave me a lot of the support and help I needed to go vegan and I made the switch pretty quickly. When I first made the transition to cruelty-free products, it made sense to transition the content of Logical Harmony as well. I was already talking about beauty products, but I pivoted to focus on just cruelty-free brands and vegan products. It’s grown a lot over the years and we are now both lucky enough to work on Logical Harmony full-time.

What is your favourite thing about running Logical Harmony?
I meet so many amazing people! There are so many amazing people who support Logical Harmony, so many great content creators out there, and so many passionate brands too. It’s been amazing to meet so many people inspired by the same things that I am and who are doing so many cool things in the cruelty-free space.

What are your favourite locations in Napa that lift up your spirits?

Eat: We mostly cook at home, but there are a few places here with good vegan options. There’s a place called Melted that’s a lot of fun. They have vegan grilled cheese sandwiches that they make using waffles as the bread. They have one with vegan pesto, sundried tomato, and artichoke hearts that’s a nice treat sometimes.

Drink: St. Clair Brown Winery & Brewery. It’s such a lovely little urban winery and garden greenhouse with an amazing team behind it. Living in wine country, I definitely appreciate wine, but growing up in Oregon I also really enjoy beer. This place is the perfect mix and offers both. Being able to sit in their sunny garden next to some sunflowers while sipping on something delicious is always enjoyable.

Secret location: What’s great about this area is that there are so many places where it’s easy to sneak away into nature. There’s a road north of town where we sometimes shoot video out in vineyards. It really feels like you’re out in nature and it’s so gorgeous being surrounded by vines and seeing both sides of the Napa Valley.

Tell us about a time that a friend (or a stranger!) lifted your mood in an instant.
I can’t think of just one – there are so many!!! I love the everyday examples of people going out of their way to be kind to one another. I get so many amazing messages from people who read Logical Harmony or watch my YouTube channels and those are always so sweet. I’m also lucky to have some great people in my life who always know how to lift my mood – Justin and Rhian are both excellent at this.

What is one thing you think people should do more often?
Take a few minutes to reflect on all the positive things in their life. It’s so easy to get sucked into all the negativity out there, but it’s important to acknowledge all the little things we often overlook. There’s so much good out there. Being grateful for all the things that are so easy to take for granted can do so much for the mood. That could be your living situation, your job, people and animals in your life, or something as small and simple as a morning cup of matcha.
We all have that one hairstyle that makes us feel like a million dollars. What’s yours?
I love messy bed head. Something about it being so undone and effortless looking just feels amazing to me.

Your favourite way to use Cloud air light volumizing mousse:
I apply a little bit into my roots while my hair is still damp, then scrunch it through to the ends and let it air dry for lots of texture and volume. It’s so weightless and works amazingly well in my fine hair! I’ve gotten so many compliments when I do this.
