#LiftUp with Christine LeBlanc

Our latest innovation, Cloud, is all about spreading the do-good/feel-good attitude. This week, we caught up with Christine LeBlanc, hairstylist and owner of Life & Colour Salon, about the little things that lift up her mood. Like Cloud, the smallest gestures can make the biggest impact.

#LiftUp with Christine

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself – where did you grow up?
Well, I’ve been doing hair for 15 years now. I’ve always been creative, inspired by fashion and design and I am the first to jump on a trend. I own my own salon in the ever popular Chinatown and consider myself a true city gal. I did, however, grow up on Vancouver Island, so I  also have a love for nature and am very down to earth. I love to travel, whether it’s getting refreshed in the sun, reconnecting with nature or being inspired by foreign cities and cultures.  As much as I love to get away, if there’s one thing I’ve learned through my travels it’s that there’s definitely no place like home.

How did you get started in the industry?
I actually got into hair because I coloured my hair black (from a box 🙀), then did my own colour correction (using store bought product😬) and did a fairly decent job; so the stylist that cut my hair afterwards (definitely needed that) suggested I attend hair school. I was thinking about studying Fine Arts, and hairstyling seemed creative and expressive so I went for it.

What’s your favourite thing about owning a salon?
I love the fact that my partner, Nadia Domany, and I have been able to create a an amazing space where we get to mentor amazing talent and build an environment where clients feel like they are a part of our team. There’s no competition, no negative self-talk,  and none of that sceney-vibe. I can’t explain the sense of pride I feel walking into such a cool, calm, creative space every day.

What’s your everyday hair routine?
Honestly, not much these days. If it’s a gym day, my favourite is AG’s Cleansing Cream, followed by some Sea Spray. Then, I blow dry my fringe and scrunch in some Tousled Texture body & shine finishing spray and let it air dry.  I’m lucky – I have easy hair!!

What are you favourite spots in Vancouver that lift up your spirits

Eat: I’d have to say Heirloom – it’s healthy and the room is bright and airy.
Drink: An Aperol Spritz on the Joe Fortes patio.
Secret location: Secret happy spot would be Golden Feet Reflexology, this girl can be standing for 8-10 hours a day.

Tell us about a time you lifted a client’s mood at your salon.
Well it’s pretty easy to lift someone’s mood by connecting with them and giving them great hair. My big thing is giving tips and tricks to know how to recreate styles at home. But our secret weapon is serving radlers from our pals over at Strathcona Beer Company. Who doesn’t like a drink after a long day of work!?

What is one thing you think people should do more often?
Laugh and not take themselves too seriously.

Your favourite way to use Cloud air light volumizing mousse:
I love adding 5-6 pumps into half air-dried hair while cutting, then rough drying and adding some loose texture with a flatiron.  My clients leave feeling styled but natural and not too done up.
